10:10 PM EST. Tony Gonsolin (LHP, LA) is another arm whose skills have soared from 2021 (4.69 xERA) to 2022 (3.27 xERA). Gonsolin has put up elite numbers across the board, including command, strikeouts, groundball rate, line drive rate, WHIP. Do not be fooled by his ERA of 5.48 over his last four starts and it is the result of an extremely unlucky 57% strand rate. He’s outstanding and he pitches for the best team in baseball.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again that Sean Manaea (LHP - SD) is far far from being an elite pitcher, His xERA over the past 12 months is 4.46 ERA in 171 IP. His strand rate the past two months is an unsustainable 80%, which is why his ERA over that span was good (4.03) but not great. He has a groundball/fly-ball split of 39%/39%, which is also very meh. That’s the starting pitching story. There’s also a new kid in town wearing Dodger Blue that the fans are anxious to see by the name of Miguel Vargas. At 22, Vargas is the youngest player at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, and more than holding his own. He leads the Pacific Coast League in hits and runs scored, and ranks in the top five in the league in doubles, RBI, walks, extra-base hits, and total bases.

The other story of course is that it’ll be Vin Scully night at Dodgers Stadium and what a night it will be. There will 100% be a playoff atmosphere with one of the most celebrated regular season games ever. The Dodgers are used to big games with big crowds with a playoff like atmosphere while the Padres are in uncharted waters. A massively jacked up crowd will inspire even more a team that doesn’t need to be jacked up.
