Cleveland +130 over Boston

7:10 PM EST. Bryan Shaw (RHP - CLE) gets a rare start here after 39 appearances out of the pen. He’s not going to go more than an inning or two at the very most so let’s just call this a bullpen game for the Tribe.

Josh Winckowski (RHP - BOS) became a legitimate prospect in 2021 by increasing his velocity and improving his already-solid command and control. He pitches aggressively with a 92-96 mph four-seam fastball that he uses up in the zone. He also mixes in a two-seamer that induces a high amount of groundballs. His other offerings consist of a slider with cutter action and a middling split-change. Winckowski is all about throwing strikes but so far in 37 frames this year, he has just 26 K’s with a weak 6.9 swing & miss rate. He’s also been very ineffective against left-handed hitters. He’ll now face a Cleveland team that has struck out fewer than any team in all of MLB, meaning the ball should be in play almost all night long for Cleveland while the same can’t be said for Boston, who is without Rafael Devers.

Boston’s infield is now down two starters, with 2B Trevor Story sidelined as well. 2B Jeter Downs, who had never played third base professionally until recently, looks like he may inherit the bulk of the starts in Devers’ stead, though the Red Sox also have the option of shifting 1B Bobby Dalbec across the diamond, back to his primary position in the minors. The Red Sox roster now also features IF Yolmer Sánchez, who can play third but may also be needed at second base, given that the team’s other options to fill in for Story — including Kiké Hernández (hip) and Christian Arroyo (groin) — are also on the IL. How can Cleveland not be a decent value play?
