Washington +205 over L.A. Dodgers

10:10 PM EST. The Dodgers need little introduction here, but we’ll give some space to Mitch White (RHP - LAD), who makes the start today. There are a few red flags in White’s profile, including an xERA that is higher than his surface number and a low groundball rate of 39.7%. Perhaps most problematic is the fact that White can’t strike anybody out. He isn’t fooling anyone with a soft 8.4% swing & miss rate and in his last two turns, White has just four punchouts to four walks in 10 innings.

Josiah Gray (RHP - WAS) returns to Los Angeles from where he was traded during his rookie season. That was last season, and he was the main piece coming back to Washington in the Max Scherzer deal. Gray had some ups and downs, with mediocre numbers in 2021, but despite that, dude has some nasty offerings to go with his strong peripherals.

In college, Gray was a shortstop but made the move to the mound full time as a sophomore. That is not an easy transition, y’all. Gray went 11-0 in his junior year (2018) with a 1.25 ERA in 13 starts. At graduation, Gray was projected to continue to improve (he has) and make an All-Star team or two (he’s well on his way). Gray has some nice underlying numbers here in year two. The strikeouts are there (10.37 K/9) and his swing & miss rate is elite (12.8%). In his last two starts, Gray has flamed 18 hitters in 11 innings and he is only going to get better. At this price, the juice is worth the squeeze.
