Oakland -1½ +227 over Texas

8:05 PM EST. The best number at the time of this posting is at Pinnacle with the A's -1½ +227. Oakland is also available at -1½ +210 at Bet 365 and -1½ +220 at 888Sport.

We’ve spilled much ink on the A’s this season, but there is good reason. Oakland isn’t nearly as bad as advertised. Enter James Kaprielian (RHP - OAK), who you’ve also seen here before. On the surface, he looks like the dog’s breakfast, but his skills are serviceable and he does bring an elite line-drive rate. We’ll leave it there for the “Moneyballers,” as we are far more interested in who the Rangers are serving up today.

Well hello, Glenn Otto Jr (RHP - TEX), good to see you again. We’ve been fading Otto for some time now and we are not letting up. We did cash our ticket fading Otto last time out, but we’ll admit that we may have been fortunate to do so in a 2-1 final. The Orioles couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn (unless they are playing the Angels, of course), and so it looks like Otto was a tough-luck loser.

Don’t be fooled by the few decent outings that Otto has had this season, as his disasters are spectacular with him giving up 18 of his 30 earned runs in his three worst starts. Since May 14, a span of seven starts, Otto has walked nearly as many batters as he has whiffed 26-to-28 in 37 innings pitched. There is much about Otto’s recent underlying numbers not to like including his inflated WHIP, a puny swing & miss rate, and a first-pitch strike rate that suggest he’s shaking in his boots out there. Despite giving up just two runs in Baltimore, Otto still issued three walks in his five innings. Otto is an inconsistent pitcher which is exactly what we are looking for in an overpriced favorite. Fade on!
