L.A. Angels -1½ +140 over Baltimore

4:05 PM EST. On May 15th, the Angels were 24-13 and in first place. Since that day, the Angels are an absolutely incredible 14-34 and own the worst record in the majors over that span. Over the past 21 days and not including last night, the Angels are hitting an absolutely incredible .132. Two of the league’s premier offensive players are on the Angels but every player is in a miserable slump that is impossible to explain.

Curious as to why the Angels were performing so poorly, I watched their game on Friday night. Trust me when I suggest that they were scorching the ball off of Jordan Lyles. Lyles recorded two swinging strikes in the first five innings and even the announcers were laughing it up and suggesting just how fortunate Lyles was. L.A. didn't score a run because every hard hit ball was right at someone or a defender made a great play. The Angels would go on to lose 4-1.

Yesterday morning, we wrote up the Angels to beat Baltimore when the line opened with Baltimore being a ridiculous -160 favorite. By the time we were ready to post, Baltimore was down to -130 and so we decided to back off instead of being on the same side as the efficient market. Baltimore would win 5-4 but the Angels would pound out 12 hits and also blew a two-run lead in the ninth.

If the past two days are any indication, the Angels are on the verge of breaking out and winning some games. They have torched the ball the past two games and have nothing to show for it. They can’t be this bad but a confluence of variances have them looking like the worst team in the league.

Forget the starters today, as this is a wager on the Angels to snap out of their funk. Baltimore had a celebratory walk-off victory last night that didn’t end when the winning run crossed the plate. It lasted well into the night, as the media, fans and players were living it up to a high degree. It was the Orioles sixth win in a row and their longest winning streak in more than two years. The party ends here.
