7:05 PM EST. The quick-rising Chase Silseth (RHP - LAA) was promoted to make his major league debut with a spot start on May 13 against Oakland. Silseth was an 11th-round pick in 2021 out of the University of Arizona and was off to a scorching start at Double-A to begin 2022—1.73 ERA, 2.4 BB/9 and 12.8 K/9 in five starts. He has upped his fastball velocity this season and now mostly sits between 94-97 mph. Though it can be straight, he has learned to change speeds better and mix in two breaking balls. Silseth’s curveball may be his best pitch, featuring significant spin and late break. He also has a tight, hard slider and a split-change that has its moments. He has been much more efficient with his pitches this year and has learned to command his fastball to both sides of the plate. If he can continue to improve his control and pitch placement, he could be a big-time sleeper for the Angels.

The good news is that he has a 5.23 ERA. His ERA last start was 6.23 but it was all bad luck and he pitched to an xERA of 2.03 with zero walks and six K’s in 4 innings. His swing and miss rate last game was an elite 15.3%. Silseth is getting better with each start and the fact that he’s an underdog to Jordan Lyles (RHP - BAL) and the O’s is incorrect.

Jordan Lyles 4.97 ERA and 1.54 WHIP has been due to some massive struggles against lefties. He has a horrible 6.15 ERA and 1.71 WHIP against them due to a really wobbly skills foundation. The Angels figure to have at least four and hopeful five left-handed bats in the lineup today.
