Cincinnati -½ +135 over Arizona

6:40 PM EST. The fade on the Diamondbacks must continue today, as this team cannot get out of its own way. Arizona will send Tyler Gilbert (LHP - ARI) for a spot start after being called up once again from Triple-A Reno. Gilbert has made two other starts this season, which does make it hard to pick him apart too much, but it’s worth noting that he’s not been able to stick with a team desperate for starting pitching for two seasons now. Gilbert started six games last year for the Snakes, but struggled. His strikeouts were low, his walks high and he was unable to fool anyone with a puny 8.5% swing and miss rate.

We’re not going to spend a lot of time on Graham Ashcraft (RHP - CIN), as his sample size is small with just three starts across 17.2 innings. While his time in the bigs has been limited, Ashcraft has not looked out of place. He’s an extreme groundball pitcher that posted an elite swing and miss rate across 105 innings in both Double-A and Triple-A last season. His groundball rate in his three starts is an off-the-charts 61%.

Those of us that bet the Reds -1½ were hosed, as our bets were refunded after that game was called with just seven innings in the books. When that game was called, the Reds were up 7-0. C'est la vie. Still, Cinci is seeing beach balls while Arizona is seeing BB's. Arizona has scored one run in its last three games covering 25 innings. They have scored one run or less in four of their last five. Every player is slumping and they'll now face a very good prospect that they have never seen before.
