WNBA Regular Season

Michelob ULTRA Arena - Las Vegas, NV

Wager: Chicago +13 (best odds: -107 at Pinnacle)

10:00 PM EST. There is simply no way the market couldn’t love the Las Vegas Aces right now. One month ago, Vegas was reeling. Entering mid-June with a 6-6 record, they looked far from the championship roster that hoisted gold last Fall, but A’ja Wilson and a veteran group around her answered the call. Since June 15, the Aces are 10-1 straight up and their point-differential is an outstanding +130 during that span, which means they’ve been beating up on opponents by an average winning margin of nearly 12 ppg. Wilson and Kelsey Plum and Kiah Stokes and the rest of the gang are tough to outplay when they’re in a flow. Like predators, they’ve picked apart opponents with high-octane offense and much better defensive effort than we saw earlier this summer. On Tuesday, the stumbling Chicago Sky are the next team in line, apparently just waiting for the slaughter.

Lately the Sky haven’t had great fortune, losers of 3 out of their last 4 contests and probably infuriated coming off two double-digit losses against the New York Liberty, the class of the Eastern Conference. Sportsbooks have no choice but to list Las Vegas as a massive favorite, especially since they’re at home, but we’d rather invest in the underdog. Firstly, Angel Reese, the dynamic rookie forward who had 15 straight double-doubles before last Saturday, was finally kept from hitting the same mark in their loss versus New York. She’ll be extra motivated to avenge that performance. Secondly, Chicago doesn’t want to stumble into a month-long break with this many losses piling up. Tuesday marks their last competition until August 15th, a long layoff because of the Olympics, and the Sky are sending 0 representatives. We can’t say the same about Vegas— they’re sending 4 different stars.

This game matters way more to the visiting team, and before the last few games, it was extremely rare to find Chicago ever losing any matchup by 10 points or more. We expect the ultra-feisty version of the Chicago Sky— the gritty, fighter-mentality brand that Angel Reese has brought to their franchise— and we like them to at least keep this game much closer than what oddsmakers project. Who knows - maybe we even get a massive upset...
