Navarro/Paolini both win a set (+130 at 888Sport)
10:30 AM EST (Tuesday). The clash between Jasmine Paolini and Emma Navarro should be great TV. Navarro has shown the poise of someone who has a lot more experience than she truly does, perhaps a consequence of a wealthy childhood with more worldly exposure than most. Either way, it's working. Navarro is playing with ruthless aggression and confidence, digging forehands into impossible spots and playing with grit in tough moments. She seems completely unphased by the bright lights of Wimbledon, a factor that we do not take lightly. London crowds and the history of Centre Court would conjure anxieties for most, but Navarro is presenting like she was born to be there. Commentators and tennis experts are gushing over the American's potential after she took out Coco Gauff in straight sets, seeing a future star in the making, and we're inclined to believe her momentum will continue into the quarterfinals. Of course, she has an awfully resilient enemy in the way.
Enter Jasmine Paolini. Arguably no women's tennis player has had a better two months, and she's as relentless and risk-taking as her opponent on Tuesday. Paolini accepted a "walkover" win against Madison Keys, but that doesn't mean it wasn't an impressive showing from the Italian. Paolini instantly took the first set against the veteran American, a gal who's been in the top 7-15 players in the world for a very long time. And it took a 14-point tiebreaker in the second set for Keys to prolong the affair. In the last month, Paolini has taken down so many big names: Andreeva, Andreescu, Rybakina, Kasatkina, and Boulter. She's been too good and too consistent to not bet on in what should be a very evenly matched battle.
The reality is, neither Navarro nor Paolini give us any reason to think this won't be a drawn out war. They're both underrated fighters who their competition can no longer ignore, equally tough and composed even in tense moments, which should translate into a 3-set classic. Sportsbooks are forced to give us a good price, but these two ladies provide us with undeniable value.
