12:30 PM EST. On paper it's hard to imagine the 23-year old Tomas Machac losing in the first round at Wimbledon. He's ranked 39th in the world and he's had a nice season on clay, going 8-4 overall. The Czech is a solid player with dynamic ability on any surface, but there's something to be said about sentimentalism. The 37-year old British tennis legend, Andy Murray, is set for his final run at Wimbledon, just 10 days after he had back surgery due to a cyst that was pressing on one of his spinal nerves - ouch. Not much is expected of Murray, who will literally drive from his local residence to Wimbledon on Tuesday, perhaps for one last time as a competitor. For bettors like us, it's impossible to ignore the advantage Murray will have in London, and not just because he'll have momentous support from the Englanders in the crowd. Over the course of 22 years, Murray has played on grass surfaces 181 times, and he has 140 victories. That's a 77.35% win rate, unsurprisingly his best W/L metric on any surface. By comparison, Macha has only played on grass 11 times in his career, and it's by far his worst surface (he only won 5/11, 45.45%). Young athleticism and current form is how oddsmakers must evaluate this match, thus Macha is listed as the favorite. We'll wager on Murray using his experience on grass, which at this point is like his own backyard, and the home crowd to drive him to at least one more victory at his favorite venue.
