12:15 PM EST. Katarina Zavatska and Daria Snigur aren't that disparate in talent or capability, but you wouldn't know that by today's odds. Zavatska is a 24-year old Ukrainian who still has a long way to go if she wants to be considered among the top-100 in the world, but she's starting to show she's not that far away. Often dismissed because of her obvious beauty, her serve needs improvement but her ability to roam the court and out-manuever her opponent is gaining credibility. She's accumulated plenty of wins in 2024, including a recent surge in Brescia, Italy, winning the tournament by beating Varvara Lepchenko  in a swift 6-2, 6-3 victory in the finals. When she loses it's usually against top-100 competitors, which makes sense based on her level of experience, but she's not an easy out. Her last few matches against top-100 opponents went as follows: a 25-game loss, a 33-game win, and a 26-game loss.

Daria Snigur is a fellow Ukrainian, 22 years old, and in the past she's caught the hearts of fans because of her resiliency and expressiveness on the court. But like Zavataska, her 2024 can be marked by failures against top-level players. Rebecca Marino, Emma Raducanu, Elizabeth Mandlik, and Hailey Baptiste have all easily knocked her out of recent tournaments, and even some lower-ranked opponents have done the same. There is no reason to believe that Snigur will simply waltz onto the court and boot Zavatska without a challenge, but that's what this total suggests. A number like 20½ is suggesting a 6-4, 6-4 or 7-5, 6-3 scenario, something we cannot endorse with the underdog's recent form. We like Zavatska to challenge Snigur in a Wimbledon qualifier and micro-battle between Ukrainian ladies.
