Edmonton +4½ over Winnipeg

This line jumps off the page, as the Blue Bombers are currently on a six-game winning streak, covering the spread in five of those contests, which has reestablished them as the odds-on favorite to represent the West in the Grey Cup. After starting the year a disappointing 2-6 (1-7 ATS), the Bombers have turned things around, sitting alone in first place in the West at 8-6.

Last week, Winnipeg went into Edmonton as a -2½-point favorite and came away with a 27-14 win. However, that score flatters the Bombers. The game was tied 10-10 after three quarters before two rushing touchdowns from Brady Oliveira helped put it away. Winnipeg also benefitted from a 4-1 advantage in turnovers, with Edmonton’s Tre Ford throwing two interceptions and the offense losing two fumbles. This week, McLeod Bethel-Thompson will start for the Elks in place of Ford after the latter struggled against the Bombers. "MBT" has been one of the top quarterbacks in the league and, while he's had some inconsistency this season, he's still more than capable of throwing for 300+ yards in any given game.

The question remains: why is this line set where it is, given Winnipeg’s hot streak and their two-touchdown win over Edmonton just a week ago? Either the oddsmakers have overlooked something, or they’re giving the Elks a legitimate chance to win this game. The betting action has been overwhelmingly in favor of Winnipeg, and we anticipate the line will move higher before kickoff. For now, we’ll post it at +4½, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for a better number later in the day.
