7:00 PM EST. There are a lot of moving parts here, so we’ll start with the hometown Tiger-Cats, who benched former starting quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell this week in favor of backup, Taylor Powell. Powell put up big numbers last week in a losing effort versus the Alouettes, going 30/38 for 319 and two majors without throwing an interception. We aren’t going to overreact to just one relief appearance, but we’ll note that just about anybody who played quarterback at a high school level would be an upgrade over Mitchell. Powell puts a fresh coat of paint on an otherwise talented team that desperately needs it.

That brings us to the “surging” Elks, who have now won two straight games over Saskatchewan and B.C. However, they did not play either of those teams at full strength, with their respective starting quarterbacks both being out of the lineup. We’ll forgo a breakdown of X’s and O’s here and instead point out the fact that the Elks were a winless football team two weeks ago, and now they are favored on the road. That’s a little spendy, no?

Situationally speaking, the Elks went through a major change this past week with the introduction of a new owner, and there were a ton of distractions with media and other obligations. Not only that, but those outside distractions came on a short week, as they played just six days ago. Traveling on a short week puts the Elks in a bad spot, and this is a bad number. Wrong side favored, Tiger-Cats outright is our call.
