Hamilton +2½ over Saskatchewan

7:00 PM EST. The Roughriders have opened the season with back-to-back road victories, including a nail-biting, walk-off, 33-30 win over Hamilton last week and another come-from-behind win in Edmonton in Week 1. The Riders could easily be 0-2 had a bounce or two gone the other way in either of those games. The fact that they aren’t presents us with an opportunity to sell high on them early, as they are the only undefeated team left in the West.

The Riders had a horrible defense last season, allowing almost 35 points per game over their final 10 games in 2023. That unit does not appear to be any more stout here in 2024, as they gave up 336 passing yards to the Elks and then 380 to the Tiger-Cats just last week in Hamilton. Conversely, the Tabbies have shown signs of their explosive offensive potential, leading the CFL in yards per game (434.5) and yards per play (8.05). Perhaps most impressive is the fact that the Tiger-Cats did not give up a sack last week to the Riders while racking up four of their own for a loss of 23 yards.

Last week, the Tabbies had multiple double-digit leads in that game but could not hold on as the Riders scored the final 13 points with Brett Lauther’s 43-yard field goal as time expired being the difference. We cannot predict if Hamilton’s defense will break again or if Saskatchewan is going to be able to wiggle out of another slow start should they stumble out of the gate once again, but we do know that all of the value lies with the Tiger-Cats here, which is precisely how we’re going to play it.
