7:05 PM EST. Regulation only. The Avs are very simply a different team on the road than they are at home, which makes them a good fade against the undervalued Jackets. Colorado is coming off a 2-1 OT loss in Chicago but played well enough to win. However, prior to that, on the road, the Avs lost at Calgary by four goals, they lost at Edmonton, 3-2 but got outshot 46-30 and they also got whacked in Winnipeg, 6-1. On the road, Colorado ranks at or near the bottom of the league in so many defensive metrics.

By contrast, Columbus ranks 1st in the league in xGF during 5-on-5 play over the past six weeks. We touched previously on the luck driven special teams stats and in that regard, Columbus’ PP ranks dead last in the NHL, which is why they haven’t won more games. Columbus has therefore been very unlucky and thus, a correction to the good on the PP is forthcoming. A great sign is that the Jackets have scored four goals in back-to-back wins, both victories over San Jose and Vegas respectively. The Jackets are gaining momentum again and have proven to be one of the more difficult teams to play against when they are clicking like they are now. Bob Bobrovsky is still on the rack, which once again means we get Joonas Korpisalo in net, which in turn means we get a better price on the Jackets because Bob is perceived to be one of the elite goalies in the league. We’re not here to argue whether he is or isn’t and he has better numbers than Korpisalo but that’s often the case with backups, as they are only asked to play a handful of games throughout the season. Korpisalo is playing back-to-back here after being sharp last game and we’re thrilled to get him and the Jackets again at a bargain price.
