7:05 PM EST. OT included. We played the Jets last night in St. Louis and won that game because Connor Hellebucyk was so much better than Jake Allen. It’s not unusual to win a game that the goaltender deserved to win but the team didn’t. The Jets were outplayed but in their defense, it was their first road game in 29 days and they also had two full days off between games. The Jets are likely to be a lot sharper tonight. Winnipeg is a monster possession team that ranks highly in all key offensive metrics and they’re defensively strong too. The Jets are very likely going to use backup Michael Hutchinson in goal tonight and when you combine that with the Jets playing the tail end of back-to-backs, it adds up to taking back an inflated price. The back-to-backs for the Jets mean nothing in terms of fatigue. This is the seventh back-to-back set for the Jets this season and they’re 3-2-1 in the first game of back-to-backs and 3-2-1 in the second game. Last season the Jets had 13 back-to-back sets, going 6-6-1 in the first game and 6-5-2 in the second game for an overall record of 12-11-3 over the past two years and this year they are playing at a much higher level.

The Stars are good but it doesn’t matter how good you are when you’re goaltending is so erratic. When either Ben Bishop or Kari Lehtonen is in net, you really never know what you’re going to get. That said, the Stars are risky because they are not scoring goals right now and because their goaltending is so unpredictable. Dallas has scored two or less in five straight and have been shut out twice over that span. They also have just six wins in 16 games vs top-10 competition while playing the 24th ranked strength of schedule. Dallas is also 0-2 against the Jets this season and they lost both games by three goals. One goal victories are all luck but three goal victories are not. Win or lose, Winnipeg is the value play here.
