OT included. We’re not going to discuss the Golden Knights too much because their season has been well-documented everywhere. However, they are slowly coming back down to earth with a 4-4 record over their past eight games and in the games that they did win over that stretch they trailed in the third period in three of them. The other victory occurred in OT, thus we could easily be discussing a team on an eight-game losing streak. That’s not to say that the Knights deserved to lose them all but it does point out the fine line between winning and losing in this sport (or any sport for that matter). Vegas is indeed a quality team, which is something we are absolutely not disputing. What we are disputing is the price on them here, which is completely out of whack.

If you didn’t watch the Blackhawks lose 6-1 in Arizona last night then you have surely heard or read about it today. That resonating loss to Arizona that ran Chicago’s losing streak to six has greatly influenced this price and market. Chicago also lost in Minnesota, 3-0 on Saturday. The media and market sees results and react. If you watched or delved into the numbers than you would know that the Blackhawks are dominating games to a high degree. See that 3-0 loss in Minnesota? Chicago outshot the Wild 44-19. See that 6-1 loss in Arizona? Chicago outshot the Coyotes 38-22. See that 3-2 loss to Calgary last week? Chicago outshot the Flames 36-23. We could go on and on. Chicago leads the league in 5v5 Score and Venue Adjusted Corsi For % over the past 25 games. They also lead the league in Shots For Per 60 Minutes over that same span. The Blackhawks troubles are all bad luck and some shaky goaltending. That said, we understand the risk, as they could get weak goaltending again here and they might also be frustrated and tired, as losing takes its toll. The Blackhawks will also play their third game in four nights and tail end of back-to-backs. However, teams’ look forward to playing in Vegas now and Chicago has already lost twice to them already this year. At some point, when least expected, the Blackhawks fortunes will turn to the good and this is about as good a price as we’ll ever get on a team as good as the Blackhawks. Chicago’s recent results are misleading as can be so let’s hope we get some adequate goaltending from Jeff Glass and a chance to cash this big overlay.
