9:00 PM EST. OT included. Calgary lost to the Kings last night in OT. The game before they lost to the Sabres, also in OT. Calgary has dropped three straight and as a result, its stock is lower than it should be. However, pay no attention to the Flames last three results and focus more on just how well they are playing. Calgary lost three straight but all three went into OT and they won six straight before that. We could very easily be discussing a team on a nine-game winning streak here. The Flames dominated puck possession against Los Angeles last night and deserved better. This is a team that has allowed two goals or less in eight straight and have picked up points in each game. The Flames are playing at an extremely high level but they’re not being given their just due. That’s our cue to move in.

Edmonton is coming off an embarrassing 5-0 loss to the Sabres so a big time response is expected. While we may see said response, haven’t we been waiting for it all season long without it happening? The Oilers are now without Ryan Nugent Hopkins. Two great players that they traded away, Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle, are thriving while the pieces they got in return has turned into a bad joke. Cam Talbot can’t get out of his own way and the coach has lost the room. What we’re learning is that last year was a bit of a mirage. It truly was a perfect storm in a positive way. When a team has the vast majority of its key guys playing at a high-level, with no pressure whatsoever and at close to full health, chances are things could go well.  As ugly as Edmonton’s current 21-24-3 mark may look, the argument could be made it actually flatters this group. On far too many occasions, this team that has been taken to the woodshed and been out of many games early on. To make matter worse, they have been especially awful since returning from their Christmas hiatus and while they may respond well tonight, when they’re priced in this range against a bitter rival like this that is playing so much better than they are, we know what to do.
