10:05 PM EST. Regulation only. Calgary is coming off a loss to the Sabres but so what. They lost it in OT and ran into a hot goaltender, which is nothing unusual in this league. Fact is, the Flames have picked up points in nine straight games with seven victories and two OT losses and they are not taking a step up in class from any of those when facing L.A. here. Calgary ranks highly in so many key analytical categories over the past six weeks and while they have only scored twice in its last two games, they are creating a slew of opportunities so we’re not going to worry about a two-game scoring slump. That said, this is more of a fade against the Kings than it is a wager on Calgary.

With all due respect to the Rangers, the Kings might be worse. At least the Rags have some quality forwards that can put the puck in the net. The Kings are coming off a 6-2 loss to Vancouver last night. They have one win over their past eight games, which was a 4-2 victory over the Rangers in a game they trailed 2-0 in. All of those aforementioned losses were of the deserving variety too. L.A. ranks in the 19th to 24th range in just about every key analytical category both offensively and defensively. Their goaltending is average at best and there is not a single team in the NHL that the Kings can outskate or beat to a loose puck. Slow, untalented and perhaps the most beatable team in the NHL, the Kings will continue to lose more games than most. With three wins in 22 games against top-16 competition after the first month of the season, the Kings look the part too.
