7:35 PM EST. OT included. Last night we faded five teams that were coming off their bye week and could have easily went 5-0 but settled for a 3-2 record on the wagering side of things. However, we decided to play the Rangers -1½ and lost that bet but they did win. The other four games (St. Louis over Ottawa, Vegas over TB, Dallas over Columbus and New Jersey over Washington) were all dominated by the team NOT off the break. Dallas lost to Columbus in OT but the Stars had a significant possession edge and a large scoring chances edge too. The Devils obliterated the Caps in high danger scoring chances (14-6) and held a massive shots on net and Corsi For % edge too. Both Vegas and the Blues also held significant Corsi For and scoring chances edges as well. The point is that these teams coming off the break are still very flat. Columbus won last night despite being the second best team on the ice and when Nashville, coming off its break, beat Vegas earlier in the week 1-0, the Preds were outshot 43-27 and out-Corsied 53-31. The Florida Panthers are next up off the break and the fade continues.
This angle proved to be highly profitable last year and this year it has showed no signs of being any different. Even the highly regarded Bolts were flat as can be last night. Situational betting comes into play often and fading teams coming off the break should not be missed until we see otherwise.
