7:05 PM EST. OT included. The Blue Jackets are 12-10 over their past 22 games with seven of those victories being by a single goal and six of those occurring in extra time by way of the shootout or five-minute three-on three. One goal games in the NHL are nothing but pure random luck and in that regard, the Jackets could easily have five or six more losses during that stretch. We’re not here to discredit the Jackets because a team still has to put itself in a position to win and Columbus has done that all year but they are not a dominant team that deserves to be priced in this range against such a dangerous underdog. Columbus is without question a playoff caliber team that has deservingly earned all their points but over the past five weeks they rank 13th in Corsi For % during five-on-five play, which is good but certainly not dominating. Can the Jackets win here? Of course they can and they deserve to be favored but in this luck driven sport, the price and the risk that goes with it is too great against an Edmonton bunch that is erratic but dangerous and capable of defeating any team in this league.

Analytically speaking, when the Oilers are being offered a price like this they are almost always an instaplay. Over the same five-weeks that we discussed on the Jackets, Edmonton ranks 10th in Corsi For %, which is two spots higher than the Jackets. The Jackets strength of schedule ranks 22nd in the league while Edmonton’s strength of schedule ranks 18th. Columbus is also just 2-7 against top-10 competition, which further reveals the risk of spotting a big price with this host against quality opposition. The Oilers are also playing at a high level over the past few games. Against Montreal and Toronto this past weekend, Edmonton dominated both games and won 6-2 over the Habs on Saturday but lost 1-0 to Toronto but outshot the Leafs 41-23 and didn’t score a goal. The Oilers did hit three goalposts in that game. Edmonton outshot Montreal and Toronto by a combined 81-47. The Oil are creating an abundance of scoring chances lately and always have a decent chance of winning. When Edmonton is being offered at this price, you can pencil us in almost every time and we make no exception here. If Cam Talbot was in goal here, this number would probably be in the +120 range. The Jackets are only 22nd overall in goals scored.
