7:05 PM EST. OT included. We faded the Panthers in their last game against Winnipeg but Florida came out firing and built a quick 2-0 lead before ended up scoring two late goals when the game was tired 4-4 to win it 6-4. The Panthers have now picked up points in five of its last six games and deserve credit for their work ethic and determination but a lull is coming because a team this average cannot overcome the devastating injuries for an extended period of time. First, it was prolific playmaker and scorer Evgenii Dadonov to go down. This past week both Roberto Luongo and Alexander Barkov went down and that leaves three of the best players on the team on the rack. James Reimer is among the worst in the business and therefore is unable to hold down the fort until Luongo and others return. Reimer hasn't lost in regulation in each of his last four outings (2-0-2), but he's given up at least three goals in each of those games. Reimer has a 3.70 goals-against-average and a .892 save percentage this season. Dude is a big liability. After such determination and positive results, the Panthers will now play a team they rarely see before heading out on a five-game trip that starts Monday in Detroit and ends with games in Vegas and Arizona over an eight day stretch. We’ve all heard about the “first-game back from a trip” angle but pay attention to the last game at home before a long trip, as we’re seeing that becoming a difficult spot. Players look forward to long trips and they also have things they have to take care of at home before leaving.

The Avalanche have dropped four straight and six of seven so their stock has hit a season low. However, Colorado lost three of those six games by one goal. They were without Gabriel Landeskog in three losses, who has returned from a four-game suspension. The Avalanche has scored two goals or less in each of their last seven games but that’s just a case of poor fortune. Colorado has won the Corsi % battle in six of its last 10 games. They are in bit of an unlucky funk right now but there is no question that they’re a much improved team from last year and have the capability to beat the Panthers. This is a live pup in a good spot at an inflated price and we’re on it.
