We pointed out that aside from a strong offense, the team was too flawed with the main flaw being weak goaltending. The Isles went on to lose that night to Ottawa (6-5) and subsequently beat Florida in OT (5-4) and then lost to Tampa Bay (6-3) and Pittsburgh (4-3). Thus, the Islanders have dropped three of four and have allowed 20 goals against in those four games. As long as the choice is between Jaroslav Halak and Tomas Greiss, the bleeding is not going to stop. Tonight, it’ll be Halak and his .890 save percentage playing for an Isles team playing their fourth game in six days. The Islanders rank 21st in Corsi For % over the last month, which is another problem considering the lack of adequate goaltending. Think about last year’s Dallas Stars. Weak goaltending, poor defensive play with a great offense. They missed the playoffs last year. The Islanders are this year’s Dallas Stars.

Meanwhile, the Bruins just keep getting healthier and better. With a great collection of youth, vets, coaching, and determination, Boston is still under the radar in this league but the numbers insist this team is legit. Charlie McAvoy continues to be a stud on defense, eating up minutes as a rookie and pairing with Zdeno Chara. Riley Nash continues to stand out as a surprising output of offensive firepower and goal scoring chances. The quartet of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Krejci.and David Pastrnak continue to create and wreak havoc no matter what players they are skating with. The Bruins are a top-7 analytics squad both offensively and defensively. Tuukka Rask got off to a very slow start but he’s been coming on lately and there is no reason for the Bruins to sit him for this one. We wouldn’t say that the Bruins are in the zone right now but they are a focused, energetic and confident team and they’re a bargain right now. Invest.
