10:30 PM EST. OT included. We’re not really sure what happens to goaltenders when they put on the Hurricanes uniform but it’s a problem that has plagued this team for years. Every time it appears that the Hurricanes have addressed their goaltending issues, they haven’t. From Cam Ward to Anton Khodubin to Eddie Lack and now to Scott Darling, every goaltender this team signs is worse than the last. Darling played well in a backup role for the Blackhawks but as the front man in Carolina, he’s been putrid and is the main reason that the Hurricanes are where they always are, which is on the outside looking in.

Adding to the ‘Canes woes is an offense that has been awful. At times the team has blown up and scored in a manner that reflects the enormous talent on the roster. However, most of the time this season they have struggled getting the puck into the net. It’s not even necessary to get into the depths of advanced analytics to see what has been going on this season. A look at goals for and goals against in light of the current standings clearly shows that the Hurricanes are having trouble scoring. That said, this team is still too good to ignore. A win over San Jose in its last game might just be the thing that ignites a run. We understand the risks in backing this team but we also are very aware of just how good they are and what a monster possession team they are. Carolina has potential to go on major run if only Scott Darling can be adequate, which he has shown to be plenty of times in the past. This wager is a combination of fading the ordinary Kings while at the same time taking back a price on a Carolina team capable of outplaying every team in this league.
