7:00 PM EST. OT included. The Kings have been among the league's best possession teams over the past six seasons but they have not generated offense in the same way. They ranked 25th in scoring last season with an average of 2.43 goals per game en route to missing the playoffs but this year they’re averaging 2.85 goals per game while maintaining their good possession numbers. The team’s 16.8% increase in scoring might be even higher if 2016-17 leading goal scorer Jeff Carter hadn’t been injured six games into the season but at least we know that the Kings are creating and scoring. The Kings brought in Pierre Turgeon’s as an “offensive coordinator” and he has teamed up with Coach John Stevens in an overall effort to improve the team’s offensive production. That was Stevens' pledge when he was chosen to replace Darryl Sutter as coach. After a rough stretch, L.A. has now won two in a row over Anaheim and Detroit while winning the scoring chance battle, the possession battle and also winning the shots on net battle.

The Caps got off to a horrible start this year and we took advantage but then the market caught up to their struggles. As a result of that slow start in October, Washington may have been underpriced in November. Somewhere in between its horrible start and recent success is the true Capitals but right now, their stock is higher again after winning three games over three quality teams (Ottawa, Tampa, Toronto) by a combined score of 12-5. The Capitals can now approach their home stand with a “breathe easier” mentality instead of the rocky, stressed approach that gripped the team through the first six weeks or so. Thus, if you bet on the Caps here, of course they can win but you may have missed the window to buy low. Washington’s possession numbers are weak (ranking 26th in the league) and even in its 4-2 win over Toronto, they only mustered 21 shots on net. The Caps have been off since Saturday, which is not beneficial and they have the Jackets on deck at the Verizon Center on Saturday night after playing the Maple Leafs in Toronto last Saturday. Situationally, this is a trouble spot for the Caps and under the hood, they’re the second best team here to begin with.
