7:05 PM EST. OT included. The Canucks will play their fifth straight on the road here but they played in New York on Saturday and in New Jersey on Friday so they’ve been in this area for at least five days. Fatigue should not be a factor for a team that is almost always energized anyway. The Canucks were clearly the better team at Madison Square Gardens but ended up as the unlucky losing side in OT. Vancouver held the Rangers to a mere 20 shots on net. It was actually one of the better games the Canucks played this year. Loui Eriksson played with the Sedins for the first time this season and the three Swedes were electric together against the Rangers by dominating just about every shift. They aren’t the #1 line but they are a threatening #2 line to be sure. The under the hood numbers for the Canucks aren’t great but they make up for it in the intangibles that include heart, effort, determination and commitment. The Canucks have been a tough out all season long and also have recent road victories in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

The Islanders defensive metrics (ranked 24th) are worse than Vancouver’s (ranked 18th), which reveals the risk of getting behind the Islanders when they are a big favorite. Remarkably, the Isles have not lost in regulation this season at the Barclay Center (7-0-2), thus regression is inevitable at home. The Isles offense has to be respected, as they are burying a lot of pucks this year but just like a lot of their other numbers, it’s not sustainable. Furthermore, Jaroslav Halak makes the risk on the Islanders even greater. With situational betting being a part of our criterion, this one fits the bill. The Islanders rarely see the Canucks so they have no scores to settle with them. The Isles are cruising along with a nice 14-7-2 record with a somewhat unblemished home record. After six straight games against Eastern rivals (Carolina, Tampa, Carolina, Philadelphia, Philadelphia and Ottawa) the Isles get a breather here before upcoming games against more East rivals in Ottawa, Florida, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Boston and finally Washington. This is the perfect spot for the Islanders to get caught taking that breather against a perceived weaker foe from the west.
