6:05 PM EST. Before we discuss this game, we are fully aware of the situation. That being that the Avs played last night in Nashville and this game starts less than 24 hours later. The Avs took a late flight to Detroit and will now play in back-to-back games, not to mention their third game in four nights after returning from Sweden. Perhaps they won’t have a lot left in the tank but the price here is still too good to pass up on. Whether ort not the Avs win here remains to be seen but we’re suggesting that the market is over-compensating for Colorado’s difficult scheduling. The Avs showed up last night and have been playing with good intensity all season.

In Nashville last night, the Avs lost 5-2 but only allowed 24 shots on net while firing away 31 of their own. The Avs held a significant Corsi For edge against Nashville after crushing the Caps on Thursday, 6-2. It’s also worth noting that the Avalanche drew seven minors against Washington on Thursday and six last night in Nashville. That’s 13 penalties they’ve drawn over its last two games, which suggests that the offense is creating some havoc.

The Red Wings, meanwhile, have outscored their last two opponents, 11-3 with easy wins over Calgary and Buffalo. It should be noted however, that Calgary had Eddie Lack in net and Detroit buried eight goals on a mere 27 shots on goal. When they beat Buffalo on Friday, the Sabres had just come off an intense OT loss in Pittsburgh and they were as lethargic as any team we have seen this season. We take nothing away from the Red Wings, as they continue to believe in what they’re doing and they’ve been damn competitive all season but they’re not good enough to be priced in this range. While we cannot guarantee a win by Colorado, we also know that teams get outplayed frequently and win and Colorado is capable of doing that too. There is also a chance that Colorado isn’t lethargic, outplays Detroit and emerges victorious. Either way, the price here makes the Avs very worthy of a bet and so does their recent play.
