3:30 PM EST. There has never been a better time to take the Volunteers this season until now. Typically spotting points is not our cup of tea but when there is value in a home favorite we will switch gears. Florida’s dominance in this series combined with Tennessee’s overall lackluster performances to date makes the Gators seem appealing but not to us. These two storylines have made the SEC East favorites extremely affordable in a game where actually they have the competitive edge. Sure, pundits will say Florida has won the last 11 games in this series but there is a wildcard in this scenario that the Volunteers can finally work to their advantage; the quarterback position. As many have already heard, Joshua Dobbs is the man under center for the Volunteers and while he has not performed up to the billing so far and is tasked with finding ways to quell a ferocious Gators defense, we have to believe the Volunteers have more confidence in their field general than Florida does at this point.

Florida will be without the services of their starting quarterback Luke Del Rio, who has been shelved until Mid-October with a knee injury. The Gators will rely on senior quarterback Austin Appleby to command the offense. In recent years, play at the quarterback position overall has not been Florida’s forte. Now, the Gators are tasked with going to a very hostile environment with a reserve quarterback at the helm against a malicious Volunteers defense. Butch Jones is going to force Appleby to throw and with personnel like Derek Barnett coming at him, his resolve and composure will assuredly be tested. Many Gators enthusiasts will argue that Florida came back from a double-digit deficit against Tennessee last year and that Tennessee may be psyched out. Blowing leads was a theme of Tennessee’s season overall in 2015 so Gators backers should not feel that the Gators are so special. Furthermore, while many will speak of how Tennessee could have lost to App State or struggled against Ohio, they overlooked one huge fact, which was the Volunteers routing Virginia Tech in Bristol. App State won 11 games in 2015 so they are a good football team and should have never been so undervalued, but even then it is possible the Vols were looking ahead to The Battle at Bristol the entire time. The same can be said in their endeavors against Ohio, as perhaps Tennessee once again was focused on this contest against their hated rival. The Volunteers despite injuries will come in to this game looking to make a statement and get this proverbial monkey finally off their back. This number opened at Tennessee -6½ because of Florida’s QB situation. The odds makers figured that into the number but the market has nixed that. We now get the Vols at a bargain price and we’ll try and take advantage.
