12:00 PM EST. The Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn won their first matchup of this Northeast Conference tournament in a rousing 73-50 home win over St. Francis (NY) on Wednesday night. That 23-point beat down will surely turn some heads in the market this morning, as it was also Brooklyn's third straight victory and second in a row by double-digits. The Blackbirds were spotting 5½-points against the Terriers last time out but that game was never in doubt, as the chalk won convincingly while going gate to wire in the process. A 90-85 win by LIUB in Jersey in the most recent meeting with Fairleigh Dickenson in early January is interesting but there was no line in that game. In fact, there are no lines in most if the NEC games because the oddsmakers do not want to be exposed to getting buried. However, interest increases during the conference tournament and it is in these types of games where we are going to find inefficiencies. LIU Brooklyn is going to get heavily bet today by a public that sees wins and losses and that’s where we find the inefficiencies.

As the #6 seed in this tournament, Fairleigh Dickinson had to go on the road to Loretto to tangle with the #3 seeded St. Francis (PA) Red Flash as an 8½ point dog. The Knights got the W in an 84-75 decision and were rewarded with a much short road trip today. FDU finished the season at just 13-18, but bring four double-digit scorers to the table with Danell Edge (14.2), Mike Holloway (13.3), Kahlil Jenkins (12.0) and Noha Morgan (11.2) all contributing on a nightly basis. The Knights have not been afraid to take their lumps this season, as coach Greg Herenda scheduled his crew to play the likes of Seton Hall, Penn State, Princeton, Rutgers and Maryland before conference play began. The Knights also has some nice wins this season including the class of the conference in Wagner, Mount St. Mary's, the aforementioned Red Flash and a big road W in Brooklyn against these Blackbirds at the end of December. We have to think that playing the 31st toughest non-conference schedule in the nation has served FDU well and may propel them into an automatic bid. Praise to thee, O Alma Mater, faithfully we sing, hear our joyful voices ringing, Fairleigh Dickinson.
