10:05 PM EST. Joe Musgrove gets this start for the Astronauts but this team wins games no matter who starts. Musgrove spent a bit of time on the 10-day DL recently with some back discomfort but he’s been pretty solid upon returning. Over his last 17 innings, Musgrove has walked just three batters while striking out 15. His 5.09 ERA isn’t pretty but was mostly posted prior to resting his back for a couple of weeks. Musgrove’s ERA since returning is 3.63 and his xERA is 3.92. This starting pitching prospect posted a 2.74 ERA, 87/10 K/BB over 85 IP between AA-AAA prior to his Aug MLB debut last season. His outstanding command and good strikeout rates speak to his legit skills. Musgrove isn’t great but he has an investable future with mid-rotation upside. Pitching for the Astros, this gamble is worth taking.

Felix Hernandez has been on the 10-day disabled list with bursitis in his right shoulder. He also missed two months with right shoulder inflammation and will make just his fourth start of the year here after posting a 4.73 ERA in his first three starts. Three years of sinking velocity, fewer strikeouts and innings pitched have paired with rising control, HR’s allowed, ERA and WHIP to severely curb hopes of any return to glory. A modest 3 mph split between his fastball and change-up has hurt him even more. What now? An increase in secondary usage could be an answer but no matter how it breaks down, this is a tough match-up for Hernandez after his long layoff. Hernandez's skills showed a mixed bag prior to his injury: his 9% swing and miss rate was a career low. His pedigree earns him some equity, but there are a lot of miles on that 31-year-old arm. Given his recent injury woes and overall skills slide, there's plenty of risk now in backing Hernandez. His name inflates his price and we’re on it.
