Toronto +7 over Calgary IN OTTAWA

6:00 PM EST. There are plenty of reasons to get behind the Stampeders here. For one, they beat the Argos twice already this season by 16 and 17 points respectively. The last game they played back in late August, Calgary outgained Toronto by 238 yards and held the Argos to a mere seven points. Incidentally, the seven points that the Argonauts put up was a defensive TD so the offense did jack. Secondly, Calgary resided in the much tougher West, where they ran over the competition while the Argos finished in first place in the East with a pedestrian 9-9 record. Secondly, the Stamps boast the CFL’s best defense, which allowed the fewest passing yards in the league and tied for the most sacks (50, with the Argos). They also led the CFL in turnover differential. To compliment that defense, Bo Levi Mitchell is widely considered to be the CFL’s best QB and he did look sharp in Sunday’s Western Final. For the first time in a while, Mitchell has a full complement of powerful receivers at his disposal, led by Kamar Jorden, DaVaris Daniels, Marquay McDaniel and Marken Michel. The Stamps could easily win going away here and again, there are plenty of reasons to get behind them. However, we still prefer the Argos with the points.

When Toronto lost to Calgary back in late August, they were a badly banged up team without a true identity. That was back in Week 10, or roughly 10 weeks ago but much has changed since then. The Argos have won six of their last eight with their only two losses coming on the last possession to strong West Division teams in Edmonton and Saskatchewan. The Argos have emerged as a powerhouse on the ground, led by Most Outstanding Rookie James Wilder Jr. Wilder’s presence has both taken pressure off Ray and opened up more space for dynamic receivers S.J. Green, Armanti Edwards and speedster DeVier Posey. Defensively, and for the first time in a while, Toronto’s defensive line is entirely healthy, led by three division all-stars and the dynamic Shawn Lemon.

In their last three games, Toronto beat Winnipeg while outgaining them by a whopping 269 yards. The very next week, the Double Blue beat B.C. and outgained them by 293 yards! In the East Final last week, the Argos defeated a game Saskatchewan squad in blustery and cold conditions in Toronto. We have seen Wild Card teams in the NFL get on a roll at the right time and ride it all the way to a Super Bowl victory. Getting hot at the right time should not be overlooked here. It’s also worth noting that by contrast, Calgary has been outgained in five straight games by Hamilton, Sask, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Edmonton again last week. While we take nothing away from the Stamps, luck-driven turnovers have been their saving grace for weeks, The Argos are healthy, they’re on a roll and they are taking back a pretty sweet number here in a game they can win outright.
